Beavers, a benefit concert for
Worth a Dam
BEAVERS is a musical exploration of beavers and the ecological systems they inhabit and support in their role as a keystone species. The songs will carry you across an arc of time that reaches back to the Pleistocene and continues on through the centuries of Beavers being hunted to the brink, and otherwise driven off of the lands they once inhabited, continuing on into recent times, and the growing understanding of the role of the beaver in creating entire ecosystems:
their engineering that helps sequester water, sink it deep;
engender and support biodiversity;
and make landscapes more resilient to climate change.
We will explore the ways in which beavers are now gaining traction, both in the waterways they formerly inhabited, and in human understanding and imagination.
Our lyrics include the writing of William Stafford, Barry Lopez, Annie Dillard, Robin Eschner, George Herbert Clarke, Melvin Walker La Follette, Chris Smith, and Chris Jones, founder of the Cornwall Beaver Project in England. Original compositions by Sarah Dupre, Robin Eschner, Chris Smith.
Concert is one hour long, no intermission. Beverages and snacks available before, and after.
